CIE4210 Parametric Design and Engineering

2021 Course Teaching

CIE4210 Parametric Design and Engineering is a course part of the learning trajectory within the Building Engineering Masters program taught in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of TU Delft.

The course is taught in the fall semester of 2021/2022. Students will learn the basic principles of parametric design and engineering, understand principles of optimization and apply algorithmic thinking to solving engineering questions using computational tools to create complex geometrical models, which they can analyse and explain. Upon completion of the course the students need to be able to:

  1. Find creative solutions for design and engineering problems by using parametric models, including optimization, automation, and scripting of their own tools.
  2. Critically argue about parametric and traditional design methods/practices, models, and theories of designing, by analyzing and comparing different design approaches.
  3. Prove and validate outcomes of parametric models by calibrating models and simplifying complex problems.
